The real reason people don't marry

Hello! We are Yuki Kasahara and Noriko Fukuda!
What do you think the reason why people don't get married? Is it because they don't want to get married? Or there is no benefit for women because they can live lives by themselves? or other reasons? People tend to seek the reason into change of social or economical situation, but I wonder it's actually the real reason.

Firstly, I will give you some basic information of comparison between countries and eras in Japan. Figure 1 is the comparison between countries. Compared with other countries, Japan has the biggest number of people who are for getting married. This data is taken in 2008. Figure2 shows  data of comparison between era in Japan. Despite of our expectation that the number of people who want to marry decrease, the number increases actually.

As you see, current Japanese young people think that they should get married. It's surprising, isn't it? What does make them hesitate getting married?

Secondly, I will give you some information why people who want to marry but haven't married yet don't marry. Figure3 is men's answers for why they don't marry. Figure4 is women's answers for why they don't marry. Division is those who have partner, those who don't have a partner, those who have never had a partner, and age. You think that the first reason is economic problem, don't you? Actually, it's true for people who have a partner. But as you see, the first biggest reasons who don't have partner now are that they can't find good partner and they can't make good relationship!!

Thirdly, I will give you some information why people who married married. Figure5 is men's answers for why they married. Figure6 is women's answers for why they married. Division is those who have child and those who don't have child, and age. As you see figures, the biggest reason why people married is that they wanted to be with their partner.

In conclusion, what we can understand by information is that people want to marry better than we expect, but the problem is that they can't find a partner. The best motivation is to be with their partner, so that they need to find a good partner firstly.
Thus, what Japanese government should do is not only solving economic problems but also giving people chances to meet opposite sex friends. In this year, "Konkatsu" became boom, which might be good opportunities for people who want to marry.

  1. I like your clear figures. And I think your conclusion is very interesting. I’ve never thought that government should give people “chances to meet opposite sex friends” like you’ve written in your conclusion. Do you have any specific ideas of it?

It's great post! I think the reason not getting marriad is similar to why people don't have boyfriend or girlfriend.haha

  3. This is Ms. MacGregor.

Where are the data of the figures from? Figures 3-6 are very hard to read. Besides, you should explain them more as there is a lot of information in them and you said almost nothing about them. I don't understand why these are line graphs. It is a very difficult way to read this data. Where are these graphs from?
What is konkatsu? If it is something new, will the data be different now from what is in the graphs? Recall that your graphs are from 2008.
This is basically good work, but we need more explanation and interpretation of the graphs.
